Vellum was started by Joseph Chung — an iOS engineer who has spent over a decade designing for Apple’s platforms. After years building products in Swift and SwiftUI for other companies, Joseph founded Vellum to make the kind of considered, design-led iOS experiences he most wanted to use himself.
Every Vellum collection is designed with the same constraints in mind: readability at a glance, OLED-tuned color, and a clear point of view. New designs are released seasonally — not on a fixed schedule, but when the moment calls for them. Spring florals arrive with the first warm weeks of the year. Cedar autumn tones arrive when the light shifts. Each collection is meant to feel inevitable, not produced.
Vellum’s library has grown to over 200 curated collections across modern, seasonal, and holiday aesthetics. Many are crafted through a custom AI-assisted design pipeline built specifically for Apple Watch’s display constraints — color, scale, and complication compatibility — then curated and refined by hand before they reach the app. If a design is in Vellum, it was selected because it would feel right on your wrist.
